LUBA 2 AWD 5000: Perimeter Wire Free Robot Lawn Mower

Ive been wanting to get a robot mower but all the options with wires were not for me. I have a fully fenced in acre with lots of fruit trees and plantings.

I had my eye on this robot and when they came out with version 2 I went for it.

Setup was a bit tricky, there are a few bugs and quirks, but I’m very satisfied after the first month or so of owning it.

It’s out in the dark right now, mowing a 1/4 acre permaculture style food forest with about 50 plants. To be fair, between the challenging obstacles and recharging time, it takes Luba 2 almost the whole day to now just this zone, but it’s mowing and I don’t have to, so that’s a win in my book.

The whole property is mapped to 5 zones. Aside from the one very challenging zone, Luba 2 can mow 2 of the other zones in a day. The other zones also have fruit tree obstacles, maybe a dozen or so each zone. Over the course of a week my whole lawn can be mowed.

I’d recommend the robot, just be sure to join the Facebook group for support. If you are tech savvy you’ve got it.

I subtracted one star for some of the software bugs/quirks and setup issues - but it’s a solid product. The machine itself is amazingly well built. Updates are rolling out weekly software-wise and the Mammotion team has shared a well thought out software roadmap, so I expect to update my review to five stars within a month or two.

This is the first review I’ve bothered to write. After suffering for two years with a worx Landroid this thing is an amazing upgrade. Where the worx would get stuck, destroy my lawn, and leave ruts this lawnborghini has none of those issues. The mow is great, it’s never gotten stuck and there’s no ruts from it constantly following the same path home. It doesn’t ever miss its charging station and the no go zones work great. I have a pretty good hill in the back yard and it doesn’t have any issues navigating it. The only improvement I can see would be in the software. If it incorporated predictive weather analysis like the rachio sprinkler controller and would just do a rain delay instead of a rain cancellation I would give it 10 stars.

I have been watching reviews of Luba 1 and 2 and other robot lawn mowers for two years. I finally got the Luba 2 and am very happy with it.
It handles my 1.5 acre yard perfectly. I have steep hills and it does better than my riding lawn mower.
It does require about 2-3 weeks to setup and fiddle with all the different settings and adjust the location of the charging station and reference station. Once you find the sweet spot it’s fun to watch it mow
I pick up all sticks before it runs to be safe and in Ohio if it has rained for 3 days, the grass gets tall, so you have to adjust the height as needed. Setting a set schedule isn’t really effective where I live since I don’t want it to mow wet grass. So I just send it on tasks as needed.
The app doesn’t have Alexa or Google in it yet. It also doesn’t have lawn printing yet. I assume it’s coming soon. I wish the app had notifications when it stops, otherwise you may find it stopped in your yard. I also wish it displayed the history because I tend to forget which zone I mowed last.
I recommend setting up multiple zones, if you made 1 huge zone it would just mow until it’s all done and it doesn’t have a set stop time. So it would mow all night and I don’t like it mowing near the road when I’m asleep, some redneck will take off with it I bet. You can pause it and resume later but if it’s already charging you can’t pause it until the next morning. It will resume whenever the battery is charged.
In conclusion, I love it. Neighbors are jealous. And it’s fun watching them mow while I drink a beer. It takes some time getting used to but it’s worth it. I recommend a garage for it and keeping it clean (sensors and blades)

The Luba 2 is an excellent robotic mower; I highly recommend.

SETUP
- the box is heavy! Get help to move it or use a hand truck
- it’s packaged extremely well
- it took me about 30 minutes to unbox, find a temporary place for the charging station and RTK, and update firmware
- BEWARE, it doesn’t support 5ghz WiFi, so I needed to walk about 100 feet away from my mesh system to force it to join 2.4ghz
- the mobile app is well designed. Setup your perimeter, add any no go zones, and it is ready to mow

MOWING
- it does an excellent job mowing. You can fully configure the cutting setting including path direction, height, spacing, speed, etc.
- it is a hill climber. When they say 80% grade, it really can climb it
- there are 3rd party parts available if you want to mow lower than 1 inch. I reel mow my Bermuda grass yard at 1/2 to 5/8 inches, so I ordered a spacer kit

MISC
- after a few days, I decided to permanently mount the RTK to my fence. I used 10 bucks worth of hardware from a big box store. BEWARE: once you move the RTK, you will need to remap everything
- I am having an electrician install an outlet close to the base station so I don’t have to run extension cords
- the RTK can plug in separately, or into the base station power
- I ordered a 4g SIM card so I can use it up to 1.86 miles from the base station. It also allows you to view the video feed when it’s not on WiFi (my mesh system works well, covering most if not all 3/4 acres). Mammotion says it uses about 200mb a month if you don’t view the camera (several GB if you do)
- you want to keep at least 6 inches from any objects when you map, so it doesn’t hit objects when it turns around
- I’m cutting out a spot in my fence, so it can leave the backyard
- battery life is good. It returns home at 15% and recharges to 80% before resuming an unfinished task
- you can setup a number of schedules to automate your mowing jobs
- I installed artificial turf around the base station, so it doesn’t tear up the ground when it does a 180 degree turn to park
- there are documented steps on social media of users replacing the battery which is plug and play after removing the top cover. Currently it appears that some dealers are able to sell replacement batteries.

I’m super excited about the mower. I am in the process of selling my 3 greenmaster and reelmaster reel mowers.

It was easy to set up and has worked great so far. My only issue is with the perimeter, I had to add a bit of padding around the edges so it wouldn't hit the fence, or anything else along the perimeter, even though I definitely did not hit anything when setting up the perimeter. I just use it in manual when the edges get tall enough to worry about, also used vegetation killer along fence line. No problems so far, but have only had it about a month.

I absolutely hated mowing my back yard, it is sloped and a lot of work, so it went a few weeks between mowing, which likely made it even harder on me, but now it gets mowed at least once a week, the big section, which seems to grow the fastest, twice a week.

Have a couple spots where satellite connection is shady, literally, but it hasn't stopped like the luba 1 would. I moved my luba 1 to another property, brother's house, where there are no trees in the yard.

I am very happy with it, at least so far.
